The designers at SurfaceID, Edge PDC and Sirius Satellite Radio have had a great long-term relationship that has spanned the development of nearly the entire Sirius product line. Optimal molding technologies have been incorporated in order to enhance the user comfort experience and instill a high level of perceived quality into the Sirius equipment. The subtle refined shapes and sophisticated forms developed for the Sirius products have helped this company define an entire separate market for high quality radio listening.

The Story Behind Sirius and SurfaceID

Sirius Satellite Radio began broadcasting in 2002, offering listeners coast-to-coast channels of music, sports, news and talk. To grow, it needed hardware that made the service easy to take anywhere, in the car, at home and on the go.

SurfaceID’s designers had a long-term relationship with Sirius that spanned the development of nearly the entire Sirius product line. Refined shapes and carefully chosen molding technologies gave the equipment comfort in the hand and a high level of perceived quality. That helped Sirius define a separate market for high-quality radio listening before it merged with XM in 2008 to form Sirius XM.

Take the Radio Anywhere

The portable boomboxes shown here dock a Sirius receiver. The same plug-and-play radio used in the car becomes a stereo for the backyard, the beach or the job site.

Quality You Can Feel

Every surface was developed with production in mind. Molding technologies were chosen to make the products comfortable to handle and to give them a high level of perceived quality, from the large speaker volumes to the details that frame the display and controls.

A Recognizable Family

Across the line, a consistent design language made each product recognizably Sirius: dark speaker forms, silver frames and handles, and the receiver presented at the centre.
