In venipuncture, there is very little margin for error. Imagine how much more effective the procedure becomes when clinicians can clearly visualize veins beneath the skin. At SurfaceID, our top-rated industrial design and product development team combined advanced mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and embedded software development to create and refine this handheld vein highlighting device through extensive research, task analysis, and iterative prototype development for the medical product development industry.

Research, Innovation & Ideas

A team of specialized engineers and designers start by checking daily issues nurses and doctors face, like spotting veins on seniors, kids, or patients with a darker skin tone in low light. They study and perform a deep SOA research on other vein locator tools in the market to spot fixes needed for ergonomics, heat dissipation, and quick cleaning. They drew initial 3d concepts and simple designs with smooth shapes, color, guides for grip, led and few dirt traps. This sets up a whole handheld vein detector device that is portable.

Building and Real-Life Testing

Our team of mechanical engineering experts developed schematics aimed at integrating components such as: infrared light, lenses, cooling parts, electronics, PCBA, etc into an ergonomic enclosure that is ip86 for environmental protection. They set the IR light angles with precision and accuracy to show veins clearly in all skin colors. Our expert industrial design team developed test models from soft foam to hard prints in order to obtain real feedback from the user(s)This process is iterative and the design, is modified many times to achieve a highly comfortable and highly usable ergonomic Device. Final tests are done for drops and heat in order to make the device more fail safe.

What is Lorem Ipsum?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
