Concept sketches and 3D development.
In minimally invasive surgery, the handle is the surgeon’s only connection to the tissue at the end of a long, slender shaft. It has to feel balanced, give precise control of the jaws and stay comfortable through a long procedure.
SurfaceID developed concept sketches and 3D models for a reusable surgical grasper. The design pairs a sculpted fixed grip with a moving finger ring and a textured thumb control on top of the handle.
Dimensioned sketches set the proportions of the handle and rings. The 3D model then separated the handle into its components, the fixed grip, the moving ring lever and the thumb control, so each part could be developed for manufacturing and assembly.
